#SHOWBIZ: 'My concert, my choice' – M Nasir on musician selection

KUALA LUMPUR: "It's my concert, so I'll choose who I want to perform with," said Datuk M Nasir in relation to selecting guitarist Kid of Search fame to accompany his performance at the Cipta 2 Concert set to take place at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, tomorrow night.

He said this in response to questions about whether Kid, who will be performing on the rock track Pawana, would rile up the other rock band also known as Search.

"One thing is that it's easy for me to perform when Kid plays because he played on the recording of this song.

"I don't really care because I know the effect of his performance will mesmerise the audience," he told Harian Metro.

M Nasir, who has composed and produced many songs for Search, was met during a practice session for his concert at a studio in Sungai Buloh recently.

Tensions are ongoing as the legendary rock group is currently split into two entities with both still utilising the same band name.

On one side are brothers Noordin and Kid, while vocalist Amy, Nasir Daud (bass), Man Kidal (guitar) and Hillary Ang (guitar) maintain another version of the group.

Meanwhile, Iman Tang who represents the concert's promoter, Icon Entertainment, said that most promoters previously only chose singers and that could be the cause of a band splitting up.

"For Cipta 2 there is a difference because we invited a guitarist. Maybe after this a drummer, we don't know. "In my opinion, maybe the cause of the split happened when the vocalist got an offer to sing while the rest of the band was left behind.

"There are those who want to save costs by hiring singers and leaving the other members out. We now respect musicians and give them work," he said.

Datuk M Nasir's Cipta 2 concert was organised after an overwhelming response from fans to the first edition held at the same location on Aug 10, which wowed 8,000 spectators.
