The Covid-19 pandemic has changed everything, especially how students learn. Face-to-face teaching has moved to online classes and as the country goes into #ReopeningSafely mode, classrooms have adopted a hybrid approach.
To ensure the sustainable continuation of students' education, Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia contributed RM76,500 to Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS) to sponsor 50 units of laptops for first year Malaysian undergraduate students from the B40 category.
"This is part of the bank's initiatives to support the growth of education in this country and contribute towards a better tomorrow, in line with our dedication to care for the society," Al Rajhi Bank Malaysia chief executive officer Arsalaan Ahmed says.
The devices were distributed by Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad to student recipients at the Presentation of Laptops to Asnaf Undergraduates 2021, organised by YSS.
Arsalaan says as a bank which advocates digital banking, Al Rajhi believes that it is crucial for everyone to have access to technology, especially among university students.
"So we hope this initiative will bridge the digital learning gap between those who can afford digital devices and those who are less privileged," he says.
Also present at the event were Deputy Minister of Education I Datuk Dr. Mah Hang Soon and YSS chief executive officer Wong Kin Lun.
The 10 public higher education institutions included in this initiative are Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara, International Islamic University Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Kuala Lumpour Campus), Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia, Politeknik Shah Alam, Politeknik Metro Kuala Lumpur and Kolej Komuniti Selayang.
