KIRUNA, founded in 1900, is the northernmost town of Sweden located 1,235km from Stockholm. My friend and I took a night train from the capital and reached the little town early next morning. Kiruna was heavily covered in snow. What a pleasant welcome!
From there, we continued our journey to Abisko National Park in search of the Northern Lights. Abisko National Park is one of the best places in the world to view the Aurora Borealis.
But a blizzard welcomed us at the national park. We had to walk in the blizzard for almost half an hour from the train station to our hostel. The inclement weather forced us to shorten our stay at the park.
The following day, we headed back to Kiruna and spent two nights there. We caught the beautiful aurora in Kiruna’s night sky.
To witness it with our own eyes was beyond words.
