Zoo Negara’s celebrity King Cheetah, Bolt, is being cared for by four zookeepers, led by Umar Ashraff. Umar. 32, and his fellow caretakers start their day at 8am by inspecting the cheetah’s enclosure to ensure that there are no harmful objects that could pose a danger to the mammal.
Then, the cheetah is released into the exhibit area, where visitors get to admire its rare and unique fur pattern, known to exist in only 30 cheetahs around the world.
Named after the world’s fastest man, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, the South African cheetah was born in Zoo Negara in July last year.
While Bolt is in the exhibit area, Umar and his colleagues clean up its enclosure. They also prepare a meal of chicken, beef and egg for Bolt.
Zookeeper Muhammad Azman Fikri Abdull Raman, 23, says the zoo workers play with Bolt by running around the fence with it.
