Hyundai Ioniq 6 arrives in two variants

HYUNDAI'S fastest-charging electric vehicle (EV) model, the Ioniq 6, is now available in the two variants of Max RWD and Max AWD.

Both are based on the same 800-volt Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture, which has a direct charging (DC) capacity of up to 350 kW and comes with a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery.

The 350 kW capacity allows it to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes, or 73 minutes with 50 kW DC charging. The two also share a reported top speed of 185 kph.

The single motor Max RWD variant is the more practical option between the two with its 614km range (WLTP).

It packs a rear-axle-mounted motor that delivers 228PS and 350Nm of maximum torque. It can sprint from zero to 100kph in 7.4 seconds.

Running on 18-inch Aero wheels, the Max RWD variant also has a larger 45-litre front compartment. The rear luggage capacity is 401 litres regardless of model.

The dual-motor Max AWD delivers a combined output of 325PS and 605Nm of torque.

It has a battery range of 519 km and can accelerate from zero to 100kph in 5.1 seconds.

Though it may have the smaller 14.5-litre front compartment, it does come with the larger 20-inch performance wheels and a sunroof.

For the most part, the differences stop there with the two sharing almost every other available feature.

The exterior sees dual-LED headlamps with intelligent front lighting, Parametric Pixel LED rear combination tail lamps, rear fog lamps, position lamps, side repeater lamps and folding side exterior mirrors.

The cabin comes with 64-colour ambient lighting, black leather upholstery, power adjustment and lumbar support seats for both driver and front passenger. The driver gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a multi-function steering wheel with voice command functionality, an electrochromic interior rear-view mirror, rear seats with a 60:40 split-folding, and a Bose eight-speaker system audio output system.

Wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported.

The primary safety equipment includes seven airbags, an anti-lock braking system, hill-start assist, multi-collision brake and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

The advanced driver assistance system includes blind-spot collision assist, lane keeping assist, forward collision avoidance assist, smart cruise control with stop-and-go, manual speed limit assist, Forward Collision Assist 2, remote smart parking assist, parking collision avoidance assist and the surround view monitor.

The vehicle-to-load functionality can be powered at up to 3.68 kW and the Ioniq 6 can be recharged at 11 kW AC for home charging.

According to the South Korean carmaker, the EV is the most aerodynamic vehicle in the market with a drag coefficient of just 0.21.

The Ioniq 6 Max RWD and Max AWD are priced at RM289,888 and RM319,888, respectively.

The colour options are Abyss Black Pearl, Nocturne Gray Matte, Biophillic Blue Pearl with Medium Silver Metallic bottom cladding, and Dive Blue Solid and Gravity Gold Matte that feature Black Metallic bottom cladding.

The standard vehicle warranty is upgradable to five years or 100,000km, and attached to this is a three-year or 50,000km free service. It also has an eight-year or 160,000km battery warranty.

The first 30 owners will receive a free one-year Shell Recharge Gold membership upon vehicle delivery.
