Lamborghini's Urus SE lands in Malaysia

THE world's first Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) super sport utility vehicle (SUV) has arrived in Malaysia.

Marking a historic milestone for Automobili Lamborghini, the Urus SE features a new design, optimised aerodynamics, up-to-date on-board technology and an 800 CV "two hearts" hybrid powertrain.

This is a combination of thermal and electric to push torque and power values to the highest ever, all the while boasting an 80 per cent reduction in emissions.

The model arrives fresh from its groundbreaking international debut at the Auto China Beijing 2024 show in April.

"The Lamborghini Urus was an important catalyst for the brand when it first joined our product portfolio back in 2017. Today, the super SUV has firmly established itself as our best seller, not just in the Asia-Pacific region, but across all markets worldwide.

"The new Urus SE sets the stage for an era of super SUV evolution in the electrification phase, and it is also a significant milestone for the brand. I believe that this car is an interpretation of the brand going beyond, and how we revolutionised the automotive world with our iconic Super SUV," said Automobili Lamborghini Asia Pacific director Francesco Scardaoni.

Compared to the Urus S, the front section of the Urus SE features a new hood with a floating design, where the absence of the cut-off line gives a sense of continuity and amplifies the athletic style.

These styling concepts were first introduced by the Revuelto.

Other new elements include the headlight clusters that feature matrix LED technology, introducing a brand-new light signature inspired by the tail of the Lamborghini brand's bull, along with a redesigned bumper and front grill.

Aerodynamic efficiency is also improved by new under-body air vents and revamped air ducts, which channel more airflow to cool the mechanical and engine components. This is a 15 per cent increase over the original Urus.

The new design of the front section, combined with an optimisation of the aerodynamic underside, improved the management of air flows dedicated to the braking system, with a 30 per cent improvement in air cooling over the previous system.

At the rear, the cargo compartment hatch has been completely redesigned, introducing a Gallardo-inspired continuity that harmonises the lines by connecting the taillight clusters with "Y" lights, a new rear diffuser. The latter along with a new spoiler increases rear downforce by 35 per cent at high speeds compared to the Urus S for improved stability.

The twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine has been re-engineered to develop 620CV of power (456kW) and 800Nm of driving torque. The combustion unit is combined with an electric powertrain to deliver 192CV (141kW) and 483Nm of torque.

A 25.9-kWh lithium-ion battery is situated below the load floor and above the electronically-controlled rear differential.

The Urus SE can sprint from zero to 100kph in 3.4 seconds (Urus S: 3.5 seconds) and zero to 200kph in 11.2 seconds (Urus S: 12.5 seconds).

It has a top speed of 312kph (Urus S: 305kph). These figures make the SE the most powerful Urus ever and the fastest production car in the segment, setting a new benchmark in the super SUV category.

The permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor located inside the eight-speed automatic transmission can act as a boost for the V8 combustion engine but also as a traction element. This makes the Urus SE a 100 per cent electric 4WD vehicle that is capable of travelling more than 60km in EV mode.

Debuting on the Urus SE is the new centrally-located longitudinal electric torque vectoring system with an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch, which distributes driving torque variably and continuously between the front and rear axles.

In the "pilot-inspired" cabin is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen display that acts as the heart of the Lamborghini Infotainment System (LIS). The centre of the dashboard, which features a new version of the Human Machine Interface (HMI), is said to be even more intuitive to use with updated graphics matching its consistency with the Revuelto.

Lamborghini Centro Stile designers also directed their design focus on the air vents; the anodised aluminium trim elements with the trademark "Y" shape, new panel, seats, and dashboard coverings. The mechanical push button panel has been given a more tactile feel.

Thanks to the hybrid powertrain, the six Urus driving modes are combined with four new Electric Performance Strategies for a total of 11 options.

Available through the "tamburo" selector unit in the centre of the console, the Strada, Sport and Corsa driving modes (road and track use) and Neve, Sabbia, and Terra modes (for surfaces with a different grip than asphalt) are now accompanied by the EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance, and Recharge options.

The customisation options are aplenty and deemed unrivalled in its category.

The alloy wheels are updated with the introduction of 23-inch Galanthus rims as standard with Pirelli P Zero tyres. There are three dedicated P Zeros, from 21 to-23 inches, to meet customers' different requirements.

All these products feature Pirelli Elect technology, developed to enhance the characteristics of the first electrified Urus.

More than 100 bodywork colour options are now available, including the two new Arancio Egon (orange) in combination with an interior in Arancio Apodis (orange), and Bianco Sapphirus (white) with interior in Terra Kedros (terracotta).

The interior options include an array of 47 colour combinations and four types of embroidery (Q-citura stitching), with the additional potential offered via the Ad Personam programme.

The Lamborghini Urus SE is available for booking via Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur, the authorised distributor, with a starting price of RM1,028,000 before taxes, duties and customisation.
