PUTRAJAYA: The Veterinary Department has vaccinated 2,286 dogs as of Sunday following the rabies outbreak in the northern states.
In Perlis, a total of 465 dogs have been vaccinated, Kedah (1,648) and Penang (173).
It said samples from 40 dogs had shown to be positive for the zoonotic virus.
"The numbers of samples collected are 160. As of 5pm last Sunday, 2,140 dogs have been culled namely 293 dogs in Perlis, 1,604 (Kedah) and 243 (Penang)," it said in a statement today.
The department said 19 dogs in Perlis were showing clinical signs of the virus.
The number of reported dog bites in the three states stood at 59 cases with 27 in Perlis, 12 (Kedah) and 20 (Penang).
