PUTRAJAYA: The restructuring of Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) saw the appointment of DCP Datuk Abd Rashid Harun as the Esscom Commander effective July 15.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced the restructuring earlier today, and said the new commander would take charge of strengthening the chain of command in Esscom.
Currently, Abd Rashid is Esscom safety and public security department director.
Najib said: "The restructuring of Esscom is also to ensure the involvement of the people with the safety and security forces in ensuring that east coast Sabah is free from crime and trespassers."
He also said the restructuring would see the inclusion of two main components which are the security and defence management component and enforcement and public action component.
The security body was established following the intrusion of Sulu militants at Kampung Tanduo in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
Esscom had since been under public scrutiny following three cross border kidnappings in Semporna, Lahad Datu and Kunak.
