SKE makes 4 gas discoveries offshore Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR: SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd's wholly-owned subsidiary, SapuraKencana Energy Sarawak Inc (SKE), has made four significant gas discoveries in the SK408 production-sharing contract (PSC) area, offshore Sarawak.

All four wells have discovered non-associated natural gas within the primary target Late Miocene Carbonate reservoirs.

The first discovery was made at Teja-1, which is located 8km southeast of the Cili Padi gas field and the second at Gorek-1, located 15km southeast of the F23 gas field.

The third well, Legundi-1 is located 18km south of the F23 gas field while the fourth one, Larak-1 is located 12km south of the F6 gas field. Both Legundi-1 and Larak-1 were drilled in a down-flank location.

"The excellent result of the drilling campaign further confirms the solid exploration model developed by SKE... a true testimony to its capability in realising the full potential of the SK408 block," SapuraKencana president and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin said in a statement.

SKE is the operator of SK408 with a 40 per cent working interest with partners Petronas-Carigali Sdn Bhd and Sarawak Shell Bhd having 30 per cent stake each.

In line with the partnership philosophy of fast track and low-cost development, all four discovery wells have been suspended with the intention of completing them as gas production wells in the future.

The SK408 block is located in shallow waters about 120km offshore Sarawak, covering an estimated area of 4,480 sq km in the prolific Central Luconia Gas Province.
