SETIU: A couple and their daughter were tragically killed in a crash early this morning while returning to Kota Baru after attending their other daughter's convocation in Putrajaya, police said.
The incident occurred around 5am on Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Baru at Kampung Sungai Lerek.
The couple was identified as Kamaruddin Ibrahim,55; his 53-year-old wife Maimunah Isa and their second daughter Nur Adriyana, 30, who was driving the car.
Two of them died on the scene, police said, adding that another passenger passed away while on the way to Setiu hospital after their Perodua Axia car was involved in a collision with a four-wheel-drive vehicle (4WD).
Setiu police chief Superintendent Mohd Zain Mat Dris said the family were travelling in a Perodua Axia when it collided with the 4WD.
"Police are investigating the cause of the crash under Section 41 (1) of the Transport Act 1987," he told NST.
The couple's other daughter Nur Azwa Syamimi,22, is in critical condition and receiving treatment at Setiu hospital.
The four were returning to their home in Kota Baru after the convocation of Nur Azwa who graduated from Kota Baru's UNITAR university. The graduation ceremony was held in Putrajaya yesterday.
The driver and the passenger of the 4WD escaped with slightly injuries, police said.
