Construction waste piles up in Seri Kembangan

SERI KEMBANGAN: Kampung Aman 1 flat residents, here, are incensed by the illegal dumping of construction waste on a plot of open space opposite the housing scheme.

Chan Peng Long, who lives just across the open space, said he spotted a one-tonne lorry dumping waste there five days ago, at around 4pm, but was unable to see the vehicle registration number.

“I was surprised to see the lorry at that hour. They obviously do not fear the authorities. It was unfortunate that I was in my unit, which is a few levels up, so I could not see the lorry’s registration number,” he said.

Workers from the restaurants and a car wash across the street were unable to help as they had not noticed the lorry dumping waste on the open space.

Illegal dumping of waste appears to be rife in Seri Kembangan.

The state government and Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) have received numerous public complaints regarding waste dumped by the side of the roads and on vacant land here.

Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, during a visit to the Kampung Aman 1 flats, said the latest case was the dumping of construction and demolition debris on vacant land in Jalan BS 5/27, near a commercial area and some residential schemes.

“The case was reported by the public early this month.

“The council has identified the owner of the land and will on Monday (today) issue it a notice to clear the waste.

“The owner, Palma Kencana Development Sdn Bhd, has until Nov 2 to remove the waste. The owner faces a compound of up to RM25,000 and could have the land seized by the state government if it fails to comply.

“The party responsible for the illegal dumping, if identified, faces the same compound,” he said.

Yong urged the public to be the authorities’ eyes and ears to help identify and catch those guilty of such acts, which could lead to blocked drains and dirty roads.

The construction waste may also become mosquito-breeding grounds.

“Those who are able to furnish us with the registration number of any vehicle dumping waste illegally will receive a RM500 reward, which can be claimed at my office at 42-2, Jalan 4/1, Taman Bukit Serdang, Seri Kembangan,” he said.

MPSJ councillor Chong Hoon Ming, who was also present, said other locations where construction and demolition waste was being dumped were Jalan BS 5/3 and Jalan PBS 14/2, here.

He said the council was still working on identifying the culprits. By Masriwanie Muhamading
