Wong Ho Leng played his part as opposition member

KUCHING: Former Sarawak DAP chairman Richard Wong Ho Leng, who lost an 18-month battle with cancer last night had played his role as opposition member to highlight the needs of the people in the state.

Sarawak Housing Minister and Tourism Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg today said, during Wong's tenure as Bukit Assek state assemblyman, the latter had offered ideas to benefit the community.

Wong, 54, died at 10.55pm at the Rejang Specialist Medical Centre in Sibu.

Abang Johari said he personally felt a vacuum over Wong's passing, as the state DAP chairman was also former Sibu member of parliament.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said her ministry would strive to offer whatever assistance Wong's family required during this trying period.

"I know it is difficult for his widow and children to accept this loss. I offer my condolences and pray for her (Wong's widow) and the children to be given the strength in this challenging time," she said.--BERNAMA
