Tajikistan president will make four-day visit to Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA: President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Sharipovich Rahmon is now in Malaysia for a four-day state visit at the invitation of the di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Mu’adzam Halim Shah.

Rahmon is accompanied by his wife Azizahmoh Rahmon.

The delegation of Tajikistan also comprised its Foreign Minister Aslov Sirodjidin, Economic Development and Trade Minister Rahimzoda Sharif, Education and Science Minister Said Nuriddin, senior government officials and businessmen.

This is Rahmon’s first state visit to Malaysia since the establishment of the diplomatic ties between Tajikistan and Malaysia in 1992.

According to Wisma Putra’s statement today, the ceremonial welcome for Rahmon will be held at the Parliament Square tomorrow.

The president is also scheduled to hold a private meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak tomorrow, followed by a delegation meeting at Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.

Rahmon and Najib are also expected to witness the signing of a number of documents for cooperation between the two countries.

In the evening, Rahmon and his wife are scheduled to attend a state dinner hosted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah at Istana Negara.

On the third day, Rahmon is scheduled to visit Lim Kok Wing University where he will be conferred with an Honorary Doctorate.

“Most of the students from Tajikistan are currently pursuing their studies at Lim Kok Wing University,” the statement said.

Rahmon is also expected to officially open a Tajikistan Trade and Investment Forum and visit the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur and Proton headquarters in Shah Alam before returning home on June 25. – BERNAMA
