HONG Leong Bank Bhd (HLB) is confident of growing its customer base on the back of its newly launched digital banking platform, the Hong Leong Connect, which has grown threefold since it was introduced in March.
Its chief operating officer (digital innovation & transactional banking) Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz said the number of users had jumped from 14,000 when the service was introduced to 60,000 now.
“We will soon start marketing efforts to promote this service, firstly among our 3.5 million current account and savings account customers and 14.3 million online customers.”
The Hong Leong Connect provides personal digital banking services across multiple platforms and devices, from online to mobile and tablet banking, and features the “PEx” service for users to send money through their mobile phones.
Apart from PEx, HLB had in October launched the PEx+, a retail payment service using smartphone technology that enables customers to pay for retail purchases without the need for cash or card, in Vietnam.
“We are doing the pilot test in Vietnam. The partnership between HLB Vietnam and Parkson Vietnam enables our customers to pay for purchases at Parkson by using their smartphone. The response has been encouraging so far,” she said.
“We are at the final stage of discussions with certain Malaysian retailers and are set to roll out a similar service locally in the first quarter of next year,” she said.
Raja Teh Maimunah said the market should expect great offerings and services from HLB, especially within the digital platform.
