Rapid introduces 13 new buses

GEORGE TOWN: Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd has introduced a fleet of 13 new fully-seated buses to support its Bridge Express Shuttle Transit (Best) services recently.

The new bus, scheduled for long-distance travel, consists of 41 seats compared to the regular Rapid bus which has only 26 seats.

It is also equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras with recording capabilities and global positioning system (GPS) for bus tracking purposes.

Its chief operating officer, Major Mohd Shukri Abdul Rahman, said the bus would provide a better experience for long-distance travel.

“We have at least 900 passengers using the Best services daily.

“The fully-seated bus would provide a safer and more convenient travel for them,” he said, adding that a passenger could save up to RM300 of travelling expenses every month.

He also said that the new buses were designed with passenger-friendly structures.

“The bus has low front and middle entry that allow passengers to get on and off easily especially for those with impaired mobility,” he said at the launching ceremony at the Queensbay Mall.

Present was State Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow.

The services are provided free in two sessions — 5.30am to 8.10am and 4.30pm to 7.30pm, at a frequncy of 20 minutes — on weekdays.

The buses cover three routes — from Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya to Free Industrial Zone in Bayan Lepas, from Bandar Perda in Bukit Mertajam to Penang Bridge and from Auto City in Juru to Penang Bridge in the morning and return in the evening.
