KUALA LUMPUR: Umno members wishing to be the candidates in the next general election will be required to undergo a special training called KERIS 2314.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also chairman of the party's training bureau, said the course would train party leaders and members on comradeship and integration.
"It is to create JIL-Umno (party’s future generation) which is part of the party’s rejuvenation process to produce capable leaders,” he said in his winding up speech at the Umno general assembly at Putra World Trade Centre today.
"Delegates, division leaders and Umno supreme council members who want to be candidates for the next general election must attend the course, too.
"I will ask the president (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) not to allow those who do not undergo the course to be chosen as candidates.”
Zahid said KERIS stood for K-Karisma (charisma), E-Ehsan (compassion), R-Rasional (rational), I-Iltizam (commitment) and S-Setia (allegiance).
He also said the number 23 means winning back the two-thirds majority in parliament while 14 is the 14th General Election.
