MUAR: Controversial musician and rapper Namewee was sentenced to three-months of community service in lieu of a three-month jail term after he pleaded guilty for using abusive words to a Tenaga Nasional Bhd officer here about four years ago.
Sessions court Judge Roszianayati Ahmad also imposed Namewee or Wee Meng Chee to a RM5,000 bond in one surety.
Wee, 31, was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code for using obscene words on TNB officer Wan Mohd Faizal Wan Hamat in his office at Jalan Temenggong Ahmad at 10pm on Oct 26, 2009.
The section carries an imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years or with fine or both.
He was earlier alleged to have insulted and disgraced the officer with obscene words.
Wee was represented by Hishamudin Abdul Aziz and Sri Rohani Sabtu while the Johor head of prosecution (Ketua Unit Pendakwaan) Saiful Edris Zainuddin prosecuted.
The charge carries an imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years or with fine or both.
