AFF: Semi-final not fixed

KUALA LUMPUR: The Asean Football Federation (AFF) is confident Malaysia’s 4-2 win over Vietnam in the AFF Cup semi-final, return leg in Hanoi was not afflicted by match-fixing.

AFF secretary-general Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad said Swiss-based sports integrity specialist Sportradar had confirmed there were no unusual betting patterns during the match.

“Sportradar has sent us its report and other necessary documents as proof and the copies have been handed to Vietnam. The service providers did not observe anything unusual in any of the pre-match or live betting markets.

“A moderate betting confidence was witnessed for Vietnam to win. However this is not strong enough to raise any integrity concerns. There is nothing to suggest the result of this match was manipulated.”

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) is investigating its team for suspected foul play after the defeat in Hanoi following a spate of match-fixing cases in the country, where all forms of gambling are illegal.

Sportradar was hired by AFF to monitor all matches in the regional competition.
