KUALA LUMPUR: The late veteran actor Mustapha Maarof had always told his children that he missed his wife, Roseyatimah.
His youngest son, Mohd Rezainudden Mustapha Azhari, 38 said this was before his father was rushed to the hospital about two weeks ago due to lung complications.
He said his father had always reminded the three siblings to be together and do not quarrel.
"He always reminded us on this. We will follow his advice," said Rezainudden adding that all family members were by his side when he passed away at 8.38am this morning.
His daughter, Azlynna, 45, said her mother passed away on Dec 14, 1987. "It is ironic that our father passed away on Dec 15, 27 years later.
"We are relieved that his last wish to be buried next to Mak's grave at Ampang Muslim cemetery," she said adding that their grandfather, Maarof Zakaria was also buried at the cemetery.
Finas director-general Datuk Kamil Othman said: "I respected the man for his acting and leadership capabilities. He was still a member of Finas board."
Veteran singer Datuk DJ Dave described Mustapha as a gentleman and a fighter.
"I visited the late Mustapha five days ago and prayed hard for him to recover. But God loves him more.
"He did not want his family members to take advantage of his popularity. He was humble and respectful."
Mustapha died at Tuanku Mizan military hospital, Wangsa Maju this morning after battling lung disease.
He leaves behind two daughters, a son and seven grandchildren.
