Think positive despite less As, PT3 candidates told

PORT KLANG: Teachers and parents are advised to remain positive with the Form Three Assessment’s (PT3) shocking result as it will benefit the students in the long run despite the declining number of straight A's scorers.

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tengku Ampuan Jemaah principal Noor Mala Hamzah said although the result did not look as grandeur and glamorous compared to the previous PMR result, it should be looked at positively.

"I may be a little bit sad and I bet the students and the parents do too but everyone should understand that PT3 is a long term investment and it will benefit the students greatly when they sit for their SPM in two years time," said Noor.

She added that the PT3 result is more accurate and reliable because students are graded according to a fixed marking system.

"Previously, student could get an A if they scored 75 marks but now, they must score 80 marks to get an A and it is fixed. There are students who got B for scoring 79 marks. It would have been an A if this was PMR," she said.

Noor also highlighted that PT3 trained students to be more critical as the assessment is based on high order thinking skill (HOTS).

"Students nowadays can no longer get high score by only memorising but they must acquire the knowledge from various sources and not only their text and reference books.

"Teachers must also change their approach in teaching as they must prompt students to think critically and obviously chalk and talk is no longer the way to teach," said Noor when met at her office here, this morning.

Nur Tihani Mohamad Khaidir, 15 who scored 7A's and 3B's urged her juniors to start preparing continuously as early as possible if they want to score higher in PT3.

"I only had about less than a year of preparation because I thought there would not be an exam and only on going assessments so I did not really start preparing when I was in my form one and two," she said.
