KOTA BARU: Polling centres at nine schools were opened at 8am for voters to cast their ballots in the Chempaka by-election here today.
There are 10 polling districts in the constituency with 20,390 ordinary voters.
The seat has another 1,497 early voters, who cast their ballots on March 18.
The centres will be closed at 5pm.
The by-election will see a five-way fight involving Pas' candidate Ahmad Fathan Mahmood and four other independent candidates.
The independents are Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary, Sharif Mahmood, Fadzillah Hussin and Aslah Mamat.
The by-election is held following the death of assemblyman Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat on Feb 12.
