KOTA BARU: The Election Commission (EC) is satisfied with the voters' turn-out so far in the Chempaka by-election today.
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusoff said 31 per cent of the registered voters in the constituency had cast their votes by 11am.
"This is good and we hope the trend will continue before the polling centres close at 5pm," he said.
As of noon, the EC recorded that 7,915 people, or 38.8 per cent of voters, cast their votes.
Aziz said people were encouraged to vote as it was an opportunity to elect a new representative for their constituency.
Besides, he said the clear weather and smooth traffic allowed people to go to the polling centres without much hassle.
He said EC expected to formally announce the result of the by-election by 9.30pm tonight.
A random survey conducted at nine polling centres showed that the voting process was smooth and there were no untoward incident reported.
