ROMPIN: Despite being a seasoned politician and popular figure in Rompin, Barisan Nasional's candidate Datuk Hasan Arifin plans to maximise the campaign period to meet as many voters and cover as much grounds as possible.
Hasan, who turns 62 on April 29, is showing no signs of slowing down as he has planned numerous meet-the-people sessions and back-to-back programmes, including travelling into the Felda settlements in the constituency.
The Rompin Umno division chief had a packed schedule today as he kicked-off his programmes by joining voters in Muadzam Shah for breakfast at three separate locations.
Brimming with confidence, Hasan said being with the community allowed him to reach out to the older and younger generation, including settlers and homemakers.
"Most of the elder generation in Rompin are my old friends. It is wonderful to see some familiar faces and many still remember me from my days as the deputy menteri besar and Bukit Ibam assemblyman.
"It has always been the same since my days as deputy menteri besar, assemblyman and division deputy chairman... which is to continuously provide services to the people. People can judge me through the services I had delivered even when I was not their appointed assemblyman," he said, adding some people questioned his age(to old to become candidate) but he remains unperturbed.
The father-of-four said he was confident of helping BN secure victory on May 5 and his mission was now to work hard for an improved majority.
Hasan promised that he will continue the late Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis’ hardwork and bring more developments in the constituency.
"Jamaluddin has done a great job for the people in Rompin and if I am given a chance, I will resume from where he had left," said Leban Chondong-born Hasan.
Yesterday evening, Hasan joined Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad for community hall ground breaking ceremony in Felda Keratong 10 before later performing prayers with villagers in Desa Melur.
Six-term MP Jamaluddin was killed along with five others in a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Kajang on April 4.
In the last general election, Jamaluddin retained the seat after defeating former Pas candidate Nuridah Mohd Salleh with a majority of 15,114 votes.
