BANGI: Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged Johor Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) leaders to prioritise helping the public over engaging in politicking.
His remarks came after Johor Amanah deputy chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad announced plans to contest up to 20 seats in the upcoming state elections.
"I believe the election is still three years away. We should focus on serving the people instead of getting caught up in politics," Zahid told reporters after the closing ceremony of the Madani Rural Leadership Empowerment Convention today.
The deputy prime minister said it was important that leaders dedicated their efforts to the community.
Earlier, Amanah revealed its intentions to contest between 12 and 20 seats, signalling a willingness to either ally with Barisan Nasional (BN) or Pakatan Harapan (PH) or run independently.
Dzulkefly said the party had identified several seats, while intending to retain the Simpang Jeram seat in Muar.
