BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have not received application from the anti-Goods and Services Tax (GST) rally organiser scheduled to be held at the Seberang Jaya expo site here tomorrow.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the organiser of such a rally was supposed to adhere to rules and regulations in accordance to the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
"Any gathering other than the by-election talks are governed by the Act. As such, the organiser of the gathering must apply for a permit within 10 days prior to the event.
"To date police have yet to be informed of the rally and if they breach the rules, we have to take action (against the organiser)," he said in a press conference at the Seberang Perai Tengah district police headquarters here today.
Besides the Seberang Jaya Expo site rally, similar rally is also being planned at Jalan Raja, in Kuala Lumpur.
On the Permatang Pauh by-election campaign, Noor Rashid said four investigation papers had been opened since the nomination day on April 25.
"Three of the investigation papers involved talks without permit by PKR and the latest was a report lodged by Barisan Nasional (BN) yesterday after a banner of its candidate Suhaimi Sabudin was vandalised.
"The banner vandalism incident is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code," he said while reminding political parties contesting in the by-election to control their emotions.
The Permatang Pauh by-election set for May 7 sees a four-corner fight between PKR candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, BN's Suhaimi, Parti Rakyat Malaysia Azman Shah Othman and independent Salleh Isahak.
