PUTRAJAYA: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry has sent counsellors to provide counselling services to those affected by the earthquake which hit Ranau and other districts in Sabah on Friday.
Its minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said counselling services were being provided at the temporary evacuation centre at Kem Bina Negara in Kundasang.
She said besides the local people, such services were also available to climbers of Mount Kinabalu and family members who have been traumatised by the disaster.
“As the climbers come from different countries, we are providing counsellors who speak English proficiently,” she told reporters after officiating the ‘Jom Jalan-jalan Bersama Hydrocephalus, Apert Syndrome & Craniosysnostosis’ programme, here today.
Rohani said the temporary evacuation centre was set up on June 5 and to date, a total of 115 people, consisting of family members of the climbers were at the centre to find out the latest development.
“Apart from the counselling service, we also provide various facilities to the people at the centre, including food,” she said.
So far, 13 people have been confirmed to have died in the earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale that struck Ranau at 7.15 am on Friday. -- Bernama
