Sabah sees second crocodile attack in a week, search for victim ongoing

LAHAD DATU: A search is ongoing for a farm worker who was attacked by a crocodile at Sungai Matamba, Jalan Silabukan, here today.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim, Rusdi Tambah, a 45-year-old Indonesian, was fishing when the crocodile emerged from the river and snatched him.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer, Riki Mohan Singh Ramday, said the authorities were alerted to the incident at 10.107am.

A team from the Lahad Datu fire station were deployed to the location, which was situated 40km away, to mount a search and rescue operation.

"The search, using rescue boats, is being carried out where the victim was last seen," he said when contacted.

The search is still ongoing.

This marked the second reported crocodile attack in a week in Sabah.

Last Thursday, a man who was reported missing while fishing in a river at a plantation in Kinabatangan, was later found dead following a suspected crocodile attack.

The body of Brono Kamilgs Nahak, 25, was discovered by a Fire and Rescue Department team about one kilometre from where he was believed to have been attacked.

A crocodile also claimed another victim on June 29, when a man who was fishing at Sungai Ladang Pontion Subok Sukau in Kinabatangan, died in an attack.

The victim, 24, was fishing when the crocodile attack happened.
