PUTRAJAYA: Eight suspected hijackers of MT Orkim Harmony had confessed to the Vietnamese authorities that they were involved in hijacking of the vessel.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deputy director-general (operations) Datuk Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar said in a statement today that the agency has started the process of extraditing the hijackers in an effort to bring them to the country as soon as possible.
"The maritime forensic team has started taking physical evidence from the vessel and our investigating officers are currently taking statements from the crew members.
"All crew members have undergone the trauma recovery treatment which was provided by armed forces hospital and Medical Relief Society Malaysia," he said.
He also denied that MMEA had issued a statement that an insider was involved in the hijacking of the oil-tanker that was laden with 6,000 metric tonnes of petrol worth RM21 million, as reported in an online portal, today.
