PETALING JAYA: Murdered autistic boy Zayn Rayyan's mother did not make a plea but only gave a statement today, said a lawyer.
Mahmud Jumaat said today's closed-court session aimed to obtain the suspect's statement in her defence.
"Any admission made in police custody cannot be used in court unless it's made in the presence of a sessions court judge or magistrate."
He said this while objecting to an application made by the police under Section 26(1) of the Evidence Act before magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah.
Zayn Rayyan's mother was seen leaving the court complex earlier with the police escorting her to a van at 12.51pm.
On Dec 6 last year, Zayn Rayyan was found dead in a stream near Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya, at 10pm.
The body was found about 200m from his home by people taking part in search-and-rescue operations.
