SWISS national Xavier Andre Justo, the ex-PetroSaudi executive facing jail for an alleged bid to blackmail his former employers, has signed a confession in the hope of a reduced sentence upon the completion of investigations into his case by Thai police in Bangkok today.
Singapore's Straits Times reported the investigations have been completed and the 49-year old is now awaiting prosecution under Thai law. He faces 10 years in jail and a fine of between THB2,000 (RM222) and THB20,000 (RM2,222) if found guilty.
Thai police crime suppression division deputy commander Colonel Kornchai Klayklueng told the Straits Times it was now up to the prosecutors to follow through, Justo having been remanded in prison since he was arrested at his home in Koh Samui on June 22.
Justo allegedly had his demands for 2.5 million Swiss Francs (RM9.95 million) rejected by PetroSaudi in 2013.
His arrest in June was following a report filed to the Thai police by PetroSaudi after documents related to alleged irregularities in 1MDB dealings were showcased on the whistleblowing website Sarawak Report.
