Labourer gets 72 years for raping teen daughter, appeals for lighter sentence

KOTA BARU: "Please give me a lighter sentence, I have repented and I want to return to my children to guide them," pleaded a labourer before the Sessions Court here, today.

The man was sentenced to 72 years in prison and 60 lashes of the rotan, on six charges of raping his daughter, resulting in her giving birth.

The court sentenced him to 12 years in prison and 10 lashes for each charge, with the sentences to run consecutively.

The court also ordered the defendant to undergo rehabilitation and counselling while in prison, as well as one year of police supervision after completing his sentence.

He committed the offence in a home at Kampung Manek Urai, Kuala Krai, between January and October 2023, around 1am to 10am.

The accused was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which carries a prison term of 30 years and 10 strokes of the rotan.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli, while the defendant was unrepresented.

Earlier, Kamarul Hasyime requested that a fitting punishment be handed down to serve as a lesson to the defendant.

The defendant, in his plea, asked for a lighter sentence, saying his children were still young and needed him as their father.

"I have repented and promise never to do it again," he said.
