PETALING JAYA: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said he will be calling the Bersih 4.0 organiser to discuss about the rally, set to kick off on Aug 29.
He said it in response to a press conference held by Bersih 2.0 today confirming that its fourth overnight mass rally is set to be held at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.
"I have not yet received any letter of notification of the gathering. Anyway, we will be calling them to discuss," Khalid said.
Bersih 2.0 chief Maria Chin Abdullah said today police and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) have been informed about their 34-hour rally set to kick off from 2pm on Aug 29 to 11.59pm on Aug 30.
"We have sent a letter to the Inspector-General of Police yesterday to notify about the peaceful assembly... And we have also expressed willingness to discuss the matter with him to ensure public safety" she said.
Various activities including civic education workshop, public discussions, traditional performances and speeches by community leaders will also be held for the participants, Chin added.
"The public are also invited to join the “Bersih 4 Challenge” by taking selfies and express their willingness to participate in the overnight rally and challenge their friends to do the same," she said.
Chin had also expressed her appreciation towards Malaysian who started campaigns on their own initiative, including posters, lighting up lamps and the ‘Yellow Rising Malaysia’ campaign that aims at getting Malaysians to dress in yellow or to tie yellow cloths to fences, trees, bags to support Bersih 4.0,” said Chin.
Bersih 4.0 rally will also be held across three states and Kuching, Sarawak, and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
