General worker charged for stealing and cheating

MALACCA: A general worker at a manpower supply company was charged in the Ayer Keroh magistrate's court here today for stealing bank drafts worth RM11,264 from his employer and cheating two individuals in a non-existent work permit renewal application.

The accused, Mohd Rozaidi Hashim, 29, a former employee of Metro Interise Resource Sdn Bhd pleaded not guilty to deceiving Lee Li Eng, 32 into handing over RM7,580 in cash for offering a non-existent work permit renewal service at Syarikat SMT Engineering and Construction in Bertam Malim on April 20 this year at 3.30pm.

He also pleaded not guilty to the similar offence where he was alleged to have deceived Ang Hong Lian, 55, into handing over RM5,560 in cash a non-existent work permit renewal service in front of Syarikat Siemmah Granite and Marble Industry Sdn Bhd on April 22 this year at 4pm.

The offences charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property is punishable to a maximum jail term of ten years, whipping and fine.

Rozaidi also did not admit to stealing seven bank drafts worth RM11,264 from his employer Yeo Ah Sang, 57, between December 2014 and June 2015 at his company in Syarikat Metro Interise Resource Sdn Bhd in Taman Malim Jaya.

The offence under Section 381 of the Penal Code, for theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master is punishable to a maximum jail term of seven years and fine.

Earlier, the prosecution conducted by deputy public prosecutor Foo Yong Luk applied court bail of RM4,500 and RM4,000 for the first two charges and RM5,500 for the third charge.

However, the accused's counsel, Farid Aziz pleaded for a lower bail as the bail amount was meant to ensure the accused's presence but not as a form of punishment to his client as the latter did not admit to the offences.

He added that the accused, who is now unemployed, had to take care of his wife and a two-year-old child and his wife was only earning RM900 a month.

Magistrate Norina Maludin then grant bail of RM6,000 for the first two charges and RM4,000 for the third charge with one surety.

The court set Sept 23 for mention.
