IPOH: A man who posed as an Airbus pilot, Petronas engineer, and even a Deputy Public Prosecutor among others has been charged with cheating.
Mohamad Faizul Baharudin, 44 however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before Magistrate Siti Nora Shariff.
According to the charge sheet, Mohamad Faizul was accused of cheating Latipah Ahmad Sudan, 64, and fraudulently persuading her to hand over RM24,000 in cash for a non-existent pilot job.
The offence was allegedly committed in front of a CIMB ATM machine in Gunung Rapat here, between Dec 12, 2016, and April 8, 2018, between 12pm and 1pm.
The offence, under Section 420 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of not less than one year and a maximum of 10 years, along with whipping and a fine upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nuranisah Ismah Muhammad Husaini prosecuted, while the accused was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Robert Gannarajan.
Nuranisah Ismah requested a bail of RM10,000, while Robert asked for a minimum bail as his client has a wife and five children.
The court then set the bail at RM4,500 and fixed Nov 27 for mention.
Earlier today, Harian Metro reported about a 44-year-old man who has been impersonating a host of professionals since 2001.
According to the report, he deceived his victims to the tune of millions of ringgit to enter into deals with him.
On Tuesday he was arrested in Ampang, Selangor.
