KEMAMAN: Terengganu’s 11.3km coastline from Pantai Kemasek to Pantai Kertih was judged the longest, cleanest beach in the country.
The recognition was given by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) after 2,150 participants from non-governmental organisations, petroleum companies and students around Dungun and Kemaman achieved the feat after collecting 12.7 metric tonnes of garbage in under four hours.
MBR representative Christopher Wong presented the award to the programme director Mazlan Tamyis, who is also the joint chairman for the 1Malaysia Turtle Conservation and Beach Cleanliness programme.
The clean-up programme was organized by the Sultan Mizan Royal Foundation and the Terengganu Petroleum Section Engineers Organisation.
Foundation board member trustee Datuk Mohd Fadzli Yusof said the programme was held in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the foundation.
“The programme itself in in line with the foundation’s objective to preserve and rehabilitate the environment. The indirect participation of the local community is seen to be very effective as they are the benefactors of a clean environment,” he said at a reception with Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin at Mesra Mall in Kertih.
Present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman, state assembly speaker Datuk Mohd Zubir Embong and state secretary Datuk Osman Muda.
