People of Johor to enjoy free Wifi from January

JOHOR BARU: Starting January next year, the people of Johor will be able to enjoy free WiFi service at several selected locations nationwide.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said a total of RM12.9 million had been allocated to prepare 135 free WiFi hotspots, with the equipment to be installed in stages.

In a statement here today, Mohamed Khaled said the Johor Free WiFi Project was a result of the ‘Suara Hati Johor’ survey conducted in 2013.

He said the survey findings showed that 20.36 percent of the respondents had wanted the telecommunication facilities in the state to be further improved.

“The programme, which covers a three-year installation period, will involve 10 districts, 16 local authorities and 13 public housing project areas,” he said.

Last night, the Dataran Bandaraya Johor Baru became the first of the 135 locations to offer the free WiFi service. – BERNAMA
