KUALA LUMPUR: Two Indian nationals claimed trial at the Sessions Court today to six counts of selling items containing tiger parts among other protected wildlife.
Thangavel Bakkiyaraj, 32, and Jayankgiri Chinnadurai, 40, were alleged to have sold tiger skins, fangs, claws, and feet, as well canine tails and musk ox parts.
The petty traders purportedly sold the animal parts at the third floor parking lot of Pudu Sentral bus terminal here around 4pm on Aug 26.
The duo face imprisonment up to a year, RM20,000 fine, or both if convicted under Section 87 of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010.
Judge Zulqarnain Hassan denied bail because both accused were not Malaysian citizens. He fixed Sept 21 for mention.
Department of Wildlife and National Parks(Perhilitan) prosecuting officer Nazarudin Kamarudin prosecuted while Thangavel and Jayankgiri were unrepresented.
