Exotic food restaurant raided for illegal wildlife meat

KUALA LANGAT: A restaurant serving exotic foods was raided by authorities for illegally storing wildlife meat last Saturday.

Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director-general Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim said a team from the Wildlife Crime Unit conducted the raid about 11am.

It was reported that the team discovered a large amount of suspected crocodile, wild boar and monitor lizard meat valued at approximately RM75,151.

"All of the meat was stored without valid documents or permits.

We also detained a Malaysian woman, believed to be the premises owner, and two Bangladeshi male workers, all aged between 30 and 60."

He said investigations showed the restaurant had been selling exotic dishes for the past three years.

"The restaurant recently went viral for promoting exotic dishes through social media platforms.

"Investigations are being conducted under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716), with potential penalties under the Wildlife Conservation Act (Amended) 2022 (Act A1646)."

Kadir said the department would continue to conduct similar operations to combat wildlife crimes and protect endangered species.
