KUALA LUMPUR: MCA plays a pivotal role in Barisan Nasional and is not a silent partner in the coalition, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Najib, who is also BN chairman, refuted claims that MCA was a silent party as painted by DAP, assuring that MCA remained as an important representative for the Chinese community in the country.
"MCA is not a silent partner of BN. They give their views courteously, but firmly.
"They speak out in cabinet meetings and BN meetings... The voice of the Chinese community is expressed through MCA," he said before launching the party's 62nd annual general meeting at MCA headquarters here, today.
MCA worked within the system, Najib added, stressing that it was a more effective way than "shouting outside".
"You are likely to be more respected (if you work within the system) and we have to continue with this," he added.
Najib also said the party must create the future by doing things together and practise unity in diversity.
"We can create our own future and that future is through BN.
"I believe in BN, in the support of MCA and all component parties in BN. This is the only way forward... Unity in diversity," he said.
