More than 1,000 porn sites blocked to date: MCMC

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has barred 1,074 pornographic websites under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said another similar 106 sites would be barred in accordance with the Act.

"The step was taken as part of MCMC's continuous effort to preserve good values upheld by the country's plural and multi-religious society.

"We urge the public to cooperate and report to the authorities if they come across any websites promoting pornography," he told reporters when met at the Sabah MIC Deepavali Open House at the Likas Sports, here.

Member of the public can forward relevant information to the MCMC at diaduanskmm@cmc.gov.my (http://aduan.skmm.gov.my).

In conjunction with the Deepavali celebration, Salleh reminded the people to uphold peace and harmony despite racial differences.

"This celebration will enlighten the relationship between Malaysians, thus fostering a sense of mutual respect between races that would work towards preserving the country's peace and hormany.

"I hope that we will be able to live in harmony on the basis of tolerance, which is very important in multi-racial country like Malaysia," he said.
