TPP protesters plan protest near KLCC tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of anti-Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) protesters plan to hold a street demonstration near the venue of Asean Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), here, tomorrow.

Social activist Badrol Hisham Shaharin, who represents Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia, said they expect many Malaysians will join the protest, including pro-BN groups and members of the public who are against the Malaysian government signing the agreement.

He said the group plans to rally at KLCC's Al-Syakirin Mosque at 2pm tomorrow, before marching towards the Ampang LRT station.

Badrol Hisham, better known as Chegubard, said they also want to protest against the visit of US president Barack Obama and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.

He spoke to reporters during the group's demonstration joined by some 20 people at Tabung Haji headquarters here earlier today.

However, it was yet to be known if the rally will be allowed to take place by authorities, considering its proximity with the venue of the Asean Summit and heavy security due to the presence of heads of nations.

Meanwhile, Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainol Samah said police have not received any notice from the rally organisers to conduct the protest tomorrow.

He said police will take necessary actions against any unlawful rally.
