LUMUT: An Indonesian fishing boat with a skipper and five crew was detained 53 nautical miles southwest of Pulau Pangkor for encroachment.
MMEA Maritime Area 3 Lumut enforcement chief Captain Zulinda Ramly said eight foreigners were found hiding inside the boat.
“When they realised our presence, the boat tried to escape by speeding towards international waters," she said today.
All crew and passengers, said Zulinda, had been detained to assist investigations.
“The crew and passengers are being detained at the Customs jetty at Kampung Acheh while the boat has been towed back to Kampung Acheh jetty," she added.
