AMPANG JAYA: The crime rate in the Ampang district has shown a decrease by 14 per cent for the year 2015.
Ampang Jaya police district, in its annual index on crime ending November 2015, recorded 2,949 crime cases this year as compared to 3,439 cases last year.
Out of all the recorded cases, police have managed to solve 1,480 cases.
Home burglary cases also showed a 16.86 per cent decrease, from 771 cases in 2014 to 641 cases this year.
However, police failed to reduce the number of wayside robberies as it recorded 65 cases this year compared to 57 cases last year.
This crime index was shared by Selangor police chief Datuk Abdul Samah Mat, here at IPD Ampang Jaya.
Abdul Samah was here to witness a duty hand-over ceremony of the new district police chief.
ACP Hamzah Alias was appointed the district's new police chief, effective today.
ACP Hamzah replaced SAC Khairuldin Saad who was promoted to become D4 principal assistant director (Intelligence/Operation/Records) for crime investigation department (CID) at Bukit Aman.
"I would like to thank IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and Datuk Abdul Samah who all this while had entrusted me with helming the Ampang Jaya police district," said Khairuldin in his speech.
ACP Hamzah had a three-year stint as police chief in the Jempul police district in Negri Sembilan.
Prior to that, Hamzah, who has a Masters in Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, was also an investigative officer for CID Sarawak (1980), IPD Sri Aman (1980-1985), CID D8 in IPK Kedah, as well as an Investigation DSP JSJK Pahang (2006-2007), among others.
