Passengers fume as aerotrain breaks down at KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR: Tempers flared at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) today as the airport experienced a breakdown in its aerotrain services.

Passengers were left fuming as they experienced difficulties in connecting between the Main Terminal Building and the Satellite Building to catch their flights or exit the airport.

The aerotrain serves as a link between the two terminals.

Social media users shared images of swelling crowds at the aerotrain platform, with crowds waiting for the trains.

It is unknown whether the breakdown in aerotrain services had led to flight delays.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) in a statement this afternoon, said the breakdown in aerotrain services was due to "technical problems."

As part of its remedial measures, the company said it had activated bus services to ferry passengers, and is keeping passengers informed of the situation via public announcements every five minutes.

"Our team is working towards the speedy rectification of the aerotrains," said the statement, and also urged passengers not to hesitate to contact its customer service officers for assistance.

A MAHB spokesman told New Straits Times that one of the trains had resumed operations about two hours later while bussing service is provided to transport passengers to their respective gates.

“The trains broke down at around 1pm and one of them started operating again at 2.58pm,” he added.
