PAPAR: Two brothers drowned while swimming in a pond at Kampung Simpudu, here.
The victims were identified as Davis Ching Meng, 10, and Rony Chiu Meng, 12.
District Fire and Rescue chief Dunstan Peter said the department received a distress call at 12.22pm and despatched a rescue team to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the body of the younger child has been brought out from the pond by villagers. Our rescue team managed to retrieve the other victim at about 1pm,” he said when contacted.
Peter said the siblings were believed to have gone swimming without their parents’ knowledge.
The bodies have been taken to the district hospital for a post-mortem.
