IPOH: Cosmetics entrepreneur Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman, widely known as Datuk Vida, had her house and four cars sealed by the Kuala Lumpur High Court due to an unpaid debt exceeding RM1 million.
According to an English daily, the RM1,060,285 debt is said to have originated from unpaid costs for converting her Shah Alam factory into a studio.
Today, an Ipoh High Court bailiff, accompanied by lawyer Samir Zainal and subcontractor Mohamad Taufik Kamarul, arrived at Hasmiza's residence on Persiaran Bukit Meru at 9am.
However, they were only granted access around 10.30am after her staff arrived.
According to Samir, the Kuala Lumpur High Court had issued a judgment on Oct 29 last year ordering Hasmiza to settle the debt, which she failed to do. Subsequently, a writ of seizure and sale was issued.
"All items in the house, except for Vida's locked room, were tagged by the bailiff after nearly four hours.
"She has two weeks, until Dec 9, to settle the debt; otherwise, the items will be auctioned," Samir was reported as saying in the article.
Samir also revealed that Vida's staff informed him that she is currently in China and would contact him soon.
Subcontractor Mohamad Taufik said he had been pursuing the debt since 2018.
He said Vida hired a consultancy firm for the renovation, which then subcontracted his services.
However, he did not get any payment as Vida failed to pay the consultancy firm, leading him to file a bankruptcy against the firm.
Efforts to obtain comments from Datuk Vida are still ongoing.
