Parents of missing debtor harassed by loan sharks

KUALA LUMPUR: An elderly couple became the unwitting victims of harassment by loan sharks after their daughter borrowed RM150,000 from 38 different Ah Longs and disappeared.

25-year old Ng Hui Yoong has been missing since late last year, leaving her parents to be harassed by the loan sharks.

Her sister claims that the family had been continually harassed since Dec 19 last year.

On that date, four men locked the house gate with a chain and a padlock, threw glass bottles into their house and forced their mother to settle up the debts borrowed by her sister, she said.

The attacks continued on Dec 26, when the house was splattered with yellow and red paint and bricks were thrown into the house as well.

A CCTV was installed after this attack occurred. Two days later, the house was again splattered with black paint and flyers printed with the debtor’s details were glued around the house.

The attacks reached a peak on Jan 8 when 3 men poured gasoline on the house gate and then set it on fire.

The parents have lodged five police reports but claim no action has been taken yet.

They approached MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong for assistance.

Chong, who spoke to Klang Selatan Deputy OCPD, Supt Goh Lee Fook, said the case will be investigated.

At the press conference held at the MCA headquarters today, Chong called on the loan sharks to stop harassing the family of the debtor as they were not involved in this case at all.

“Since this year began, I have already received 16 cases involving a total of RM942,000 borrowed and the majority of the debtors are from the Chinese community”

“If your situation is really tight that it requires you to borrow money, please borrow from licensed money lenders where every step is properly documented” he advised the public.
