KUALA LUMPUR: Eight-year-old American child prodigy chef Estie Kung from Man vs Child: Chef Showdown admitted enjoying the celebrity status she has garnered from being on the TV show.
“I feed off of it!” said the Hollywood native excitedly when met at a Press conference at Le Meridien Hotel here yesterday.
Kung is the youngest contestant in the reality culinary competition that premiered in July last year in the US, where young chefs aged between 7 and 14 are pitted against fully-trained professional chefs.
Kung, who is half-Chinese, was in town to promote the show which will premiere on Jan 26 on Lifetime (Astro Channel 709). It airs every Tuesday at 7pm and 10pm.
“Being on the show has been fun because people underestimated me. So I could win very easily,” she said cheekily.
Kung will be meeting Malaysian fans tomorrow (Jan 16) at Sunway Pyramid (Water Feature Area, Ground Floor, near the skating rink) from noon onwards. Admission is free.
Also at the Press conference, she admitted of having little knowledge on Malaysian food, but she has heard of the durian.
“Is that the one where it is yellow on the inside with the outer skin all spiky? I’d like to try it one day!”
Kung who is on a tour to promote the show, was in Hong Kong and the Philippines, before stopping by Kuala Lumpur. She will be heading to Singapore next.
