TMI's chief editor to be questioned: Police

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will question The Malaysian Insider (TMI) chief editor Jahabar Sadiq over an article the news portal published on Thursday.

Inspector-General of PoliceTan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today called on the Cyber Investigation Response Centre to investigate TMI's “confusing” report about the recommendations made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) operations review panel.

“PCIRC @PDRM panggil Ketua Editor @tm_insider dan siasat laporan yg mengelirukan org ramai berkenaan Panel MACC (Police called the chief editor and to investigate the report that is confusing the public on the MACC panel),” he tweeted.

Yesterday, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) blocked access to TMI’s website.

Visitors to the TMI website are now redirected to a commission notice that said the ban was imposed because TMI had allegedly violated of Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“The action against TMI was also based on complaints received from the public,” MCMC said in another statement on its Facebook page.

“Thus, MCMC would like to remind news portals to not spread or publish articles with unverified facts as such actions can create confusion and spark untoward situations.”

Users browsing on Unifi and Celcom are unable to view the TMI website. However, those on other services, like Maxis and Digi are still able to view the site.
