KLFA chief questions alleged Gwangju deal

KUALA LUMPUR: Even before the newly elected Kuala Lumpur FA (KLFA) officials could warm their seats, another controversy has erupted.

Kuala Lumpur United Sdn Bhd, the owner of Super League club, KL City, questioned an alleged "business agreement" with South Korea's Gwangju FC.

On Friday, Korea League 1 club Gwangju announced a partnership with KL City on their social media, featuring a photo of their representative and Azri Azerai from Rinani Group Berhad, which previously held a stake in KL City. However, there was allegedly no endorsement by the KLFA executive committee.

KL United Sdn Bhd director Syed Yazid Syed Omar has questioned the legitimacy of the deal and asked who authorised it when the KL City team were facing a financial struggle.

"KLFA owns KL City 100 per cent. KL United Sdn Bhd is the licence holder for the club. Who gave Azri permission to make such a deal?" said Syed Yazid, who is also KLFA president.

Timesport tried contacting Azri today for his comments on the issue.
